OFFICE WI-FI

Your Wi-Fi is somebody's actual job for the day.

Half of your office is fine; the corner conference room drops every third Teams call; the CFO's laptop hates the third floor. Somebody keeps saying it's the ISP. Usually it isn't. We come in, put actual instruments on the network, and tell you what's really going on.

THE SITUATION

The pattern is always the same. Somebody on your team spent a Tuesday afternoon rebooting the router. It worked for a week. Then two people started reporting slow uploads, then five, then the sales floor called an emergency. The consumer-grade access points you inherited from the last office move aren't broken exactly — they're just doing their best with a floor plan they weren't designed for.

Meanwhile, the free apps everyone runs to check Wi-Fi speed lie. They test your ISP, not the path from a laptop through drywall to an AP mounted above a suspended ceiling. Which is why you keep calling Optimum and they keep telling you the line is fine.

Nobody wants to explain to leadership again that the video call broke because of the office network. We fix that.

HOW WE FIX IT
01
On-site survey with real gear
An engineer walks the floor with a spectrum analyzer and a proper Wi-Fi mapper (Ekahaus or NetAlly). We take actual RF measurements at desks and in conference rooms, not vibes. Result: a heat map of your real coverage plus a channel-utilization report showing what's actually competing on your spectrum.
02
Diagnose the actual cause
About 70% of 'Wi-Fi problems' are one of four things: too few APs for the square footage, APs mounted in the wrong places, channel/band misconfiguration, or bulk co-channel interference from the neighboring floor. We identify which of the four is yours and prove it with data before we quote a fix.
03
Fix at the right layer
Sometimes the fix is repositioning existing APs; sometimes it's adding two more; sometimes it's replacing consumer-grade gear with enterprise APs (Ubiquiti UniFi or Meraki depending on your appetite for cloud licensing). We recommend the smallest change that actually solves it — not the biggest sale.
04
Verify before we call it done
Post-remediation, we walk the floor again and produce a before/after coverage map. If any of the original pain points still show up, we're not done. Written report handed off at the end.
WHAT YOU GET
  • Written site survey with heat map (before and after)
  • Channel-utilization + interference report
  • Recommended AP layout with exact placement
  • Executed AP installation or repositioning
  • Roaming, band-steering, and QoS configuration
  • Firmware + management-plane setup (UniFi / Meraki)
  • Documentation of SSID plan, VLANs, guest network
  • 60-day check-in after go-live
HOW THE ENGAGEMENT WORKS
Usually a project, sometimes managed

For a one-time office we quote a fixed-price project — survey + design + install + verification. If you're already on a managed plan with us, ongoing Wi-Fi monitoring and change management is included in the base fee.

Timeline

Small office (single floor, under 5,000 sq ft): survey in a day, plan the next, install a week later. Larger floor plans or multi-floor buildings: 2-4 weeks depending on cabling and building-access scheduling.

What it costs, roughly

Survey-only engagements start around $1,500. Full remediation (survey + hardware + install for a typical 50-person office): usually $8-20k depending on gear tier and how much cabling has to happen. We quote the specific number after the survey, not before.

QUESTIONS WE GET
Can you tell us if it's actually our ISP?
Yes. The survey report includes upstream throughput testing at the demarcation point vs. at end-user devices. If your ISP really is throttling or dropping packets, we prove it with numbers you can hand to Optimum or Verizon.
We already have Meraki / UniFi. Do we need new hardware?
Often no. Most of what we do with existing enterprise gear is reposition, retune, and add one or two APs where the previous install missed a corner. We don't push replacements unless the gear is actually the problem.
How long does the survey itself take?
4-6 hours on-site for a typical single-floor office. We can work around meetings — most surveys we schedule for a lunch hour through end-of-day to minimize disruption.
Do you handle conference-room-specific problems?
Yes, and those are usually the fastest wins. Conference-room Wi-Fi issues are almost always AP placement (mounted in the hallway, not the room) or channel congestion from a neighboring room's own AP. Fixable in a single visit most of the time.
Can this be handled remotely?
No. Wi-Fi is a physics problem. It has to be diagnosed on-site with real instruments. Anyone offering to fix it via a Zoom call is guessing.
